Hidden Beach is 2 hours from the Cancun airport. It is located next door to El Dorado Royale, where Hidden Beach guests can enjoy full privileges. We opted for a swim up suite and were so glad we did. It was fabulous to go out in the morning and sit at the table in the pool to enjoy our first cup of coffee. We had a welcome bottle of champagne in the room with 2 apples. A cabinet dispensed top shelf bottles of rum, vodka, whiskey and tequila with real glasses to drink from. The rooms were small, but nice. The floors, however, were dangerously slippery and we laid a towel at the slider every day. The service was excellent as was the food (although we were disappointed on lobster night).
This is a very small and intimate resort. You can be nude all the time without restriction. It’s a laid back environment with very few activities. The beach is quite long, but not swimmable due to the amount of coral. There are covered hanging beds on the beach where you can nap, read or just watch the ocean. If there was sexual activity (and we know there was), it was very discreet.
The pool bar was the happening place during the day. Tito, the cross-dresser bartender, is very entertaining. He would occasionally join the pool volleyball game, which meant he had to get naked as you must be naked in the pool. The Jacuzzi was large, but the jets malfunctioned most of the time.
The disco is upstairs and open aired so be prepared to sweat. The women dressed in lingerie based on the theme of the day and men wore shorts or pareos. There is a pole on the dance floor and a pool table up there as well. The bar is very small and had only 4 chairs. There are also cocktail tables, a loveseat and chairs, but not much for seating. The pool bar closed when the disco opened. The gift shop had very limited hours. We were told it would open upon request, but we waited 30 minutes after being told someone would be right over before we gave up. We were with two other couples and each couple had something stolen from their room (I had a watch and shoes taken). The manager put security on it immediately, but it was set aside when the Wilma warnings became serious and the grounds were being secured.
This is where you go to relax and lounge in the nude. On body painting day, we lined up and strutted to El Dorado Royale (we all wore bottoms only) to entertain their guests with our unique painting. They were very amused. We also went to Playa del Carmen one evening and found it to be pricey.
This resort is for couples only, including gay and lesbian. The guests were in their 40’s, on average.
We would go back, but not in the near future.
